Ethnic Dormitory
At PDO
High School, we have a
total of 230 ethnic girls currently living on the school campus. The school provides
all these children with accommodation and food on a daily base. All of the
girls come from other states, the so-called remote areas, where they
encountered difficultly in accessing education. This is why they’re at PDO High
School. They received information about the high
standard of education at this school from novices who had already studied
there. Most of the girls used to live near the Thai border. If they had stayed
there, they probably would have become migrant workers in Thailand, which
is a risky prospect. According to tradition, their parents would have arranged that
they marry at an early age. As a result, they would have had no opportunity to
study. In their native towns, education services are rare and transport is also
a problem. Another reason for them studying in Mandalay is because their parents cannot afford
to pay for their education. This is why the ethnic groups send their children
to PDO High School.
